A boy accidentally wakes up a war machine designed to destroy, and she decides her only purpose now is protecting him, which turns into a comedy about a giant robot learning what it means to care about someone. The early episodes have genuine energy because they're not pretending to be serious, just letting Kurumi be earnest and chaotic while Nakahito spirals. The character designs are distinct enough that you remember each Angel by instinct, the comedy timing lands harder than it has any right to, and the show knows exactly what kind of fun it is.

In Taisho-era Japan, a scientist named Ayanokoji builds the Steel Angel, an artificial humanoid with superhuman physical power. The Imperial Army sees it as a tool for modern war, but Ayanokoji hopes his work will move humanity forward, so he disobeys the Army and secretly creates a Steel Angel called Kurumi. One day young Nakahito Kagura sneaks into Ayanokoji's house on a dare from his friends and finds Kurumi lying motionless. When the Imperial Army attacks and the house shakes, Kurumi falls onto him, their lips touch, and she awakens. The result is a short-format TV series mixing mecha action, adventure, comedy, drama and romance.
