Ufotable takes a generic "crew saves the world" premise and animates it so fluidly that you stop noticing the story is thin until you're already invested in these people. Season 2 understands that the point was never the mystery of seraphim coexistence, it's watching Sorey lose his certainty about what salvation actually costs, watching him choose between mercy and the hard kind of justice. The animation does what the script can't: it makes you feel the weight of decisions that the writing only states.

Sorey is a young human raised among the seraphim, spiritual beings that people cannot see. He puts his faith in an old folk belief that every human could once see the seraphim, and he dreams of solving that ancient puzzle so that humans and seraphim can share the world in peace. On his first visit to the human capital, he is caught up in an incident, pulls a holy sword out of a rock, and becomes a Shepherd, someone who drives calamity away from the world. As the gravity of the task sinks in, his hope for coexistence grows stronger, and he sets out on a journey with his companions. This second season of the fantasy action adventure runs for 13 episodes.
