The sound design does the actual haunting. Every footstep, every breath, every silence between them creates dread that the animation doesn't always deliver on its own. Umezu's grotesque character design translates perfectly to cel, those twisted faces burning themselves into your memory long after the OVA ends. The plots are thin genre exercises, but the atmosphere is suffocating enough that you stop caring what happens next, only that something terrible is coming.

The truth they uncover may prove more frightening than anything she imagined. A second tale follows shy Miko and her bolder friend Nanako through a summer vacation. Bored with horror movie marathons, Nanako leads Miko and two other friends into an abandoned mansion on the edge of town that is said to be haunted, and things soon start going badly wrong. Both stories in this horror OVA carry the same warning: meddling with the supernatural has consequences.
