Gerda refuses to accept that her best friend Kai is dead. When the Snow Queen's mirror shatters, its evil shards scatter across the world, and one that lodges in a person turns their heart to ice. Kai falls victim to one such shard, grows cold toward the people he loves, and drives Gerda away in tears. Then he vanishes, carried off by the Snow Queen to her ice castle in the far north. The village believes he drowned in the frozen lake, but Gerda dreamed of seeing him climb into the queen's carriage. When a drunk man admits he saw the same thing, she begins to suspect it was no dream. Ignoring the adults who insist Kai is gone, she sets out alone on a journey full of hardships to rescue him and bring him home. The 36-episode adventure and fantasy drama is adapted from Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale.
