A boy wakes up to find out his entire life was a lie, then spends the rest of the series learning that loss doesn't end you, it just changes what you're willing to carry. Vitalis and his traveling troupe become family through exhaustion and hunger and small moments of laughter, not plot convenience. The show refuses to make suffering beautiful or redemptive, it just lets you watch a kid survive it.

Remi lives a happy life with his mother in the French countryside until the day his estranged father comes back. Badly in need of money, the man reveals that Remi is adopted and then sells him, tearing him away from everything familiar. Heartbroken, Remi joins Vitalis, a traveling musician with a troupe of performing animals. Together they journey across the country, earning a living while searching for Remi's real parents and learning hard lessons about life. Adapted from Hector-Henri Malot's novel Sans Famille, the drama is a moving account of friendship, loss and the search for happiness.
