A girl and her mother walk across Europe with a donkey and a camera, turning grief into forward motion. A young girl named Perrine sets out on a seemingly impossible journey of more than a thousand kilometers with her mother and two animal companions. After her father's death in Bosnia, her mother carries his last wish: to go to France and join his father. With a camera, a sturdy donkey named Palikare and a devoted dog named Baron, the pair head for Paris, taking pictures of people in the towns they pass through to pay their way. The road tests them constantly. They meet generous people, pass through poor and empty villages, and face one hardship after another. The story is a gentle drama of survival, family and hope, told through the small moments of a long trip across Europe.
