A human commanding demons in a war nobody knows he shouldn't win. The premise alone hooks you, but what keeps you watching is Ike's actual competence, he wins through strategy and exhaustion, not because the plot bends to protect him. The animation stumbles hard enough to distract you. The military chess game between species who could genuinely destroy each other never wavers. Watch it for a premise that executes on its promise, not because it looks clean.

Ike is a gifted magician who leads the Immortal Brigade within the Seventh Corps of the Demon Lord's Army. Raised and taught by the demon warlock Romberg, he learned about an ancient, advanced civilization, and together with his natural talent this lets him climb the ranks quickly. He takes fortresses on his own and wins battle after battle against human forces. Neither the Demon Lord Dairokuten nor his loyal troops know the truth: Ike is human. He accepts the danger of being found out because he hopes to end the long war and let humans and demons live side by side. The result is a fantasy action drama about keeping a deadly secret.
