Aramis carries an old grief. After a fall from her horse, she was helped by a man named Francois, and the two fell for each other at once, until Manson and the Iron Mask's men killed him. Vowing revenge, she went to Paris and became a musketeer. A year after the TV series ends, D'Artagnan and the three musketeers defeat Jussac and the Cardinal's Guards when they harass a woman in a Paris tavern. Later that night, D'Artagnan saves the same woman from throwing herself into a river and takes her home, but she soon disappears. The next day he learns she was killed, and because his hat turned up beside her body, Rochefort and the Cardinal's Guards arrest him for her murder. Aramis finds a connection to Catherine de Medicis and begins her own inquiry, one that leads her back to her lost love's castle, where she must stand against Pizzaro to guard a perilous document.
