The opening episode breaks you deliberately. Kotoura's pain is real enough that when Manabe simply accepts her without flinching, it feels like salvation instead of a setup. Everything that works about this show lives in that moment of recognition, someone finally choosing to stay, and the rest is just watching her learn she deserves to be chosen.

Haruka has been able to read minds since she was a little girl, and it has cost her dearly. Her parents divorced because of her ability and left her with her grandfather, and classmates who saw her as a monster drove her to become cold and unsociable. When she transfers to a new high school, she plans to keep her power quiet and stay away from everyone. Then she meets Yoshihisa, a boy who doesn't mind that she knows what he's thinking. He welcomes her ability and promises to stay by her side no matter what. Soon the Paranormal Society club pulls her in as well, and a mix of comedy, drama and romance follows as Haruka gradually opens up to new friends who accept her.
