Four minutes is all it needs. Yamishibai strips away everything except the setup and the moment you realize what's wrong, leaving you suspended in that sick feeling while the credits roll. Season 12 remembers why the format works: it moves fast enough that you can't anticipate the turn, and the theatrical staging makes every shadow feel deliberate instead of accidental.

Yamishibai returns for its twelfth season, once again telling short horror stories in the style of traditional Japanese paper drama. The stories draw on some of the strangest urban legends in Japan, presented in a modern anime format. Across 13 brief episodes, the series offers supernatural horror in small doses for viewers who like their scares compact.
