Emperor Ming of the Han Dynasty hands Ban Chao, who comes from a line of historians, a bronze swallow talisman and sends him west to the Western Regions. His task is to find the golden Buddha the emperor once saw in a dream, along with the secret of immortality. Ban Chao assembles a band of thirty-six people for the journey, among them masters hiding out in the capital, heirs of the Mo family, descendants of pirates and a Gu master from Yelang. Alongside the emperor's wish, he pursues goals of his own: learning the history of his family and tracking down the killer who framed his father. The series is a thirteen-episode action drama released online.
