The romance isn't a subplot, it's the reason Ichigo keeps showing up to fight aliens after school, the thing she's actually terrified of losing more than the world ending. Every transformation sequence is foreplay disguised as spectacle. A magical girl show that understands the real magic is wanting someone badly enough to risk everything, including the mortifying vulnerability of being seen.

Five girls carry a secret that could change everything. Ichigo Momomiya is excited to start high school and find love, and she soon falls for the popular Masaya Aoyama. On a date at an exhibition about endangered animals, a strange light strikes her, and she later gains the abilities of an Iriomote cat. Researchers Ryou Shirogane and Keiichiro Akasaka reveal that she is part of the Mew Project, a team of five magical girls whose DNA has been blended with that of endangered species. Ichigo must track down her fellow Mew Mews and fight the Chimera Anima, creatures infected by aliens bent on conquering the world, all while hiding her double life from friends and family. Expect a mix of magical girl action, comedy and romance.
