A thirteen-year-old girl juggles being a pop star, a magical girl, a crepe shop employee, and a student all at once, and somehow the show makes you believe she's actually exhausted. Yuu's charm is that she's selfish and scared and imperfect, scrambling through each day in a way that feels lived-in rather than performed. The aliens are basically window dressing. What matters is watching her steal five minutes between transformation sequences to eat, cry, or fail a test.

Yuu is a young girl whose ordinary life changes after she sees a spaceship and is granted the power to use magic for one year. She also receives two cats, Poji and Nega, who watch over and guide her. With her magic, she transforms into the idol Creamy Mami. From there, Yuu has a lot on her plate: she works hard at acting and singing, helps her parents at their crepe shop, fights aliens and bad guys, and keeps up with school. On top of all that, she hopes to win the affections of her childhood friend Toshio. The 52-episode TV series from 1983 blends magical girl fantasy with comedy, music, romance and a touch of science fiction.
