A five-year-old girl learns what hunger means in a country that forgot its children. The film doesn't flinch from this, doesn't soften the weight of a half sweet potato becoming a meal you're grateful for. It finds something unbearable and asks you to sit with it anyway, which is the only honest way to honor what actually happened.

A five-year-old girl lives in the years just after World War II, a time when people struggle simply to get by. This 2005 drama film tells her story against that backdrop of postwar hardship, following a young child growing up while the adults around her fight to make a living.
