The weight of what Vash lost at JuLai doesn't fade into backstory, it becomes the scar tissue everyone in this world has to live with now. Meryl searching for someone who doesn't want to be found, Wolfwood's quiet return, Vash buried under a new name: this is what happens after the catastrophe, when the hero can't save anyone and has to figure out if he's worth saving himself. The show understands that sometimes the hardest thing isn't stopping the bad guy, it's facing the person you couldn't protect, and what that does to both of you.

Two and a half years have passed since the catastrophe that consumed JuLai. Meryl continues hunting for answers as a seasoned journalist, partnering with younger colleague Milly and crossing paths with Wolfwood along the way. Coordinated plant thefts spark across the desert, signaling that Millions Knives remains a threat far from neutralized. Vash, now calling himself Eriks, has retreated to obscurity in a remote backwater town. His quiet life is interrupted when a young girl named Jessica arrives with a distress call from the third ship, the one her people call home. The news pushes him to finally settle a long-running feud to protect the people he cares about. Then a transmission reaches the planet from deep space: colony vessels from Earth are offering to carry anyone willing to a new frontier. The population celebrates, but the one-winged angel returns to spread ruin and despair.
