In the desert kingdom of Clow, young archaeologist Syaoran shares a quiet bond with his childhood friend Princess Sakura, though the King disapproves of their growing romance. During an excavation at mysterious ruins, Sakura appears in a trance with wings on her back, and the wings break apart into feathers that scatter across other worlds. With them go her memories, and her life is at risk. After striking a deal with the Dimensional Witch Yuuko, Syaoran sets out to recover every feather, knowing that even if Sakura regains her memory, she will not remember him. Joining him are Kurogane, an exiled ninja who wants to get back to his own world; Fay, a carefree magician fleeing his king who has no wish to return home; and Mokona, a small white creature able to carry them between realms. Together the mismatched group roams from world to world in an adventure fantasy with a strand of romance.
