A kid makes one stupid decision and has to fix it by actually playing baseball instead of just talking about it. The money plot disappears because that's not the point, the point is a shortstop learning that his team needs him, not just tolerating him. By the time you realize this is a children's special from decades ago, you've already bought in to a kid who has to earn his position every single day.

Musuke Sato, nicknamed Shorty, plays shortstop for the Eggs, a local junior baseball team. His mother asks him to hold on to some money for her, and he unwisely lends it to Tower and Dump, the school's resident bad boys. To get out of the fix he has made, Musuke has to call on the help of the pitcher's pretty little sister. The one-episode sports special is adapted from a children's book by Sunada Hiroshi.
