Alto and Vermeil have chemistry that actually works, their banter snaps, their dynamic shifts credibly as they learn each other, and the kiss-for-magic mechanic stops being a gimmick and becomes the emotional core of how they're learning to trust. The show knows it's built on fanservice but refuses to let that be the whole story; it sneaks genuine character reveals and worldbuilding cliffhangers between the ecchi moments, so you stay for reasons beyond the premise. Alto is a student at Royal Ortigia Magic Academy who dreams of becoming a great sorcerer, but failing his summoning class leaves him facing the prospect of repeating a year. Desperate for a way out, he follows the instructions in an old, battered grimoire and calls up Vermeil, a legendary demon who had been sealed away long ago. Grateful to be freed, she agrees to serve as his familiar. The catch: Vermeil restores her magical energy by kissing him deeply, which stirs up trouble with Lilia, Alto's jealous childhood friend. The result is an ecchi fantasy romance with a comedic streak.
