Miyako's attraction to Hana-chan is played completely straight, which makes every failed attempt at connection land harder than actual punchlines. The show knows exactly how funny it is to watch a college girl's entire nervous system short-circuit around a third-grader, and it milks that one joke for twelve episodes without it getting old. You watch her suffer through her own hopelessness, and somehow that becomes the most comforting thing on screen.

Miyako Hoshino is a shy college student and otaku who spends most of her time in her room sewing cosplay outfits. That changes when her fifth-grade sister Hinata brings home a classmate, Hana Shirosaki, and Miyako is instantly smitten by how cute the girl is. Her attempts to win Hana over, from dressing her in cosplay to plying her with sweets, leave a poor first impression, yet Miyako refuses to give up on getting closer to her. The result is a light sketch comedy with a yuri streak, built around a painfully awkward young woman trying her hardest to befriend a little girl she adores.
