Kirishima is warm and patient and completely wrong for her, and the show knows exactly how twisted that contradiction is. Yoshino walks into the Miyama estate expecting to hate her arranged marriage and instead finds herself tangled up in a man who makes her feel safe while everything around them is collapsing. The romance doesn't apologize for being melodramatic, and neither does the yakuza intrigue, which means you're either all in on the mess or you're out by episode two.

Yoshino Somei, the sheltered granddaughter of the head of Osaka's powerful Somei yakuza group, is engaged to Kirishima Miyama as part of a truce with the Tokyo-based Miyama family. The 17-year-old moves to Tokyo to live with the Miyama household and attend school alongside her new fiancé. Kirishima greets her warmly and seems polite and normal, yet something about him unsettles her. Her doubts prove right: behind the smile is a violent masochist who hurts others without hesitation, enjoys being punished himself, and wants a spoiled, arrogant bride who will wreck his life. When Yoshino falls short of that and he turns openly insulting, she refuses to flee. With the peace between East and West at stake, she resolves to get even by making him fall in love with her and then crushing his heart. The result is a romantic comedy drama set among rival crime families.
