Nobody expects a Youkai Watch show to sit still long enough to actually care about the characters. Youkai Gakuen Y does anyway, spacing out the gags so there's room to watch Jinpei and the YSP Club actually become friends, actually fail at something, actually learn what they're fighting for. The show trusts you to laugh at the joke, then live with them for five minutes before the next one lands, and that rhythm, that patience, is what makes the touching parts land instead of feel grafted on.

Y Academy is an ultra elite school, but many mysteries hang over its halls. Jinpei and his fellow YSP Club members take on those puzzles, and they can also turn into Yo-kai Heroes, trusted with solving the biggest riddles Yo-kai history has ever known. An overbearing student council, a merciless disciplinary committee and even an alien invasion lie ahead of them, along with the deepest secret hidden in the academy, and indeed in the whole world. The show balances sudden bursts of gag comedy with touching, emotional moments, blending supernatural fantasy and laughs across 63 episodes.
