Yurumates knows exactly what it is: a single room where four girls kill time between study sessions by being quietly, stupidly funny. The humor lives in the gaps between words, in the way someone eats at 3 AM or complains about their own brain. There's no plot to chase you forward, no arc demanding your attention; the whole point is sitting in that apartment and letting the rhythm of their friendship become yours. The chibi style is cheap but that's the secret, it softens everything, makes the smallest moment feel safe. This is comfort food that doesn't pretend to be anything larger. Watch it when you need to remember that some of the best times happen when nothing is happening at all.
Fresh out of high school, 18-year-old Yurume Aida becomes a ronin, spending an extra year preparing for university entrance exams in the hope of getting into Tokyo University. She leaves her rural hometown for the Maison du Wish, a boarding house said to be in Tokyo that turns out to be a run-down building on the city's rural outskirts. Her fellow residents are also ronin: Sae Kawano, a veteran who plays the straight man, the innocent-looking Kumi Tanaka, and Matsukishi, a young man who looks twice his age. Scraping by on tight funds alongside her neighbors, Yurume settles into a slow, comfortable routine and finds her place in the community, even if studying rarely gets done. Based on a 4-koma manga by Saxyun, this single OVA is a laid-back slice-of-life comedy.
