The magical girl genre promises transformation and power. Washio Sumi no Shou shows you what transformation actually costs, frame by frame, until the weight of saving the world becomes visible in how your characters move. This isn't a prequel that explains plot holes in the original series, it's a film that makes you understand why three girls chose to break themselves, and makes you feel the exact moment they made that choice.

Tomodachi is the first film in the three-part Washio Sumi no Shou trilogy, part of the Yuuki Yuuna wa Yuusha de Aru franchise. Released in 2017 as a single movie, it mixes action, drama and fantasy with magical girl elements, and it also leans on slice of life.
