It's not a collection, it's a gauntlet, a reminder that the people making anime are still hungry, still experimenting, still willing to burn a minute of their career on something that exists nowhere else.

Ani*Kuri15 brings together fifteen shorts, each a minute long, made by people working across Japan's animation industry. The name comes from joining the words anime and creators. NHK aired the pieces in three seasons of five, placing them between its regular programs. Contributors include Mamoru Oshii, Makoto Shinkai, Satoshi Kon, Shoji Kawamori, Mahiro Maeda and Michael Arias, and two of the shorts are joint works by pairs of creators. Titles range from Invasion from Space: Hiroshi's Case and The Aromatic Tea Blues to Project Mermaid and A Gathering of Cats, with the anthology spanning adventure, comedy, drama and fantasy.
