The basement finally opens, and the show is ruthless about what it does with that answer. What you thought the story was about changes in real time, and Sawano's score doesn't let your chest relax for a single episode. This is a ten-episode sprint where each episode ends exactly when you need the next one to start, and by the finale you understand why every death before this moment mattered.

Humanity stands on the brink of reclaiming what was lost. The Survey Corps sets out to retake Wall Maria and the Shiganshina District, the town that was once Eren's home. With Eren's newfound ability to harden his Titan form, the Scouts believe they can seal the wall, and success would let Eren finally uncover the secrets waiting in his family's basement. On arrival, the town is strangely empty of Titans, and even after the outer gate is sealed no resistance appears. Armin grows suspicious of the quiet and finds troubling signs that a plan is being laid against them, as Reiner, Bertholdt and the Beast Titan pursue goals of their own. What follows is a costly struggle for victory, filled with action, drama and mystery.
