Azumanga Daioh's dream logic doesn't need a movie to work, but this one exists just to watch Chiyo's pigtails move. The animation reaches a theatrical polish that makes even recycled gags feel fresher than they have any right to. Five minutes of pure comfort, designed for people who already love these characters enough that watching them do nothing new is exactly the point.

Osaka is having one of her strange dreams again, and this time Chiyo's pigtails have come alive. The pigtails pull free from Chiyo's head and hop out through a window, leaving it uncertain whether young Chiyo will ever be happy again.
