This is a 1994 comedy that knows exactly what it's parodying and doesn't waste time pretending to be serious about it. The action sequences exist entirely to set up jokes about property damage and anime nonsense, with characters who understand they're in a ridiculous setup. The plot is secondary to the moment-to-moment comedy, which means you're not watching to find out what happens next, you're watching to see what absurd thing the show will do to its own premise. If you spent the 90s watching anime take itself too seriously, this one is built as a direct middle finger to all of that.

At Tobira High School, a group of guardians protects a sealed gate to the Dark World, and they must risk their lives to keep it closed. Thirty thousand years earlier, beings called Remnants invaded Earth. The gate was sealed by sacrificing a boy named Kairen, known as the Key, and the heroine Jinno Hazumi defeated the Remnant leader Kijima Touta with help from her allies Chiryuu and Tenku. Stranded on Earth, the Remnants went on living as ordinary humans. Now the gate is due to open again, and as that moment draws near, the Remnants slowly recover their memories and true forms, hoping to let demons overrun the world. Old conflicts of love and hate threaten to repeat themselves. The four-episode OVA mixes action, comedy and supernatural fantasy.
