Takumi arrives in a new town already convinced he's washed up, and Gou wants to build something with him anyway. The show refuses to make either of them likeable first, it just watches them learn what it costs to trust someone when you're both still figuring out who you are. This is a portrait of two kids learning the battery together, not a sports anime wearing a character study as disguise.

Takumi Harada, a gifted young pitcher, relocates to a small mountain town in Okayama with his family just before starting middle school, following his father's job transfer. After the move, he begins to doubt his own ability. Then his classmate Gou Nagakura turns up, eager to become his catcher and form a battery with him. While the pair work at building that partnership, Takumi's blunt, irreverent attitude sets him against his new teammates, and under his grandfather's guidance he searches for what makes the game truly enjoyable. The series is a sports drama with a slice of life feel.
