Ichigo finally faces the Hollow that took his mother, and the show turns what could have been revenge porn into something quieter and more devastating: a kid understanding that killing won't bring her back. The animation and soundtrack do the heavy lifting here, making every frame and every note feel like grief instead of spectacle. If you know Bleach, you already know this story. What matters is how perfectly this special executes the emotional core that the main series sometimes rushes past.

Kurosaki Ichigo is working as a temporary Shinigami, or Death God, on behalf of Kuchiki Rukia when he learns that one of the Hollows he has been hunting is the creature that killed his mother. He takes it on in a proud fight for revenge. The special is the first Bleach OVA, a pilot made before the TV anime premiered that offers a special version of episodes 8 and 9. It was shown at the Jump Festa 2004 Anime Tour and later came out on DVD, and it closes with the Bleach: Gotei 13 Omake as its ending sequence.
