Senna arrives and immediately feels like she should have been in the main series, the dynamic between her and Ichigo rewrites what you thought you knew about his character in ninety minutes. The ending doesn't pull punches; it costs something real, and the movie knows exactly what it's doing when it takes that from you. This is a movie that understands Bleach fans want to care about someone, not just watch swords clash.

Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki are Soul Reapers used to fighting Hollows in Karakura Town, until a wave of strange spirits called Blanks appears. These hostile souls have no memories and cannot be sent on by the usual soul burial. Senna, a female Soul Reaper neither of them knows, steps in to drive the Blanks back. Meanwhile, a mirage of the human world appears in the sky over Soul Society, and a man named Ganryu, who leads a group called the Dark Ones, turns up as well. Senna sidesteps any attempt to learn who she is, and how she connects to these strange events remains an open mystery. The film is a supernatural action adventure with dramatic stakes.
