In 1996 people have settled the Moon and Mars, but the Cold War still pits the United States against the Soviet Union. On Mars, a UN-backed exchange program meant to foster peace is caught between four unknown humanoid robots, and three of them attack the base, killing nearly all the students. The fourth robot's pilot, who has tried to keep civilians out of the fight, reveals himself to the few survivors as Albatro Null Eiji Asuka and warns that the distant Grados Empire plans to occupy Earth. Across three episodes, this mecha OVA reworks the TV series: two chapters recap the story on either side of a time skip, and the last presents an alternative ending with new animation and a longer epilogue.
