That tonal whiplash between kitchen-table companionship and the brutality of their combat is the show's real tension, and this OVA refuses to soften it. You watch these 15-centimeter soldiers get torn apart and rebuilt in the same space where they eat curry with their master, and the show never pretends that contradiction doesn't matter. This is what happens when a show treats its tiny robot girls as both characters and weapons, the OVA doesn't flinch from either half.

Busou Shinki: Armored War Goddess gets a single OVA episode, released in 2013 as an episode of the TV series that never aired. The franchise is set in an everyday future where robots are a normal part of life. Shinki are small robot partners, about 15 centimeters tall, with intelligence and emotions, built to help their human Masters, and they can be outfitted with weapons and armor to battle one another. Ann, Aines and Lene are the Shinki at the center of the TV series. The OVA is an action and sci-fi entry.
