A 16-year-old gets cursed into godhood and the show treats that like a dating problem, not a power fantasy. The action is legitimately smart, the mythology is thick enough to matter, but what carries you through is how much the writing cares about making the girls real people instead of reward tokens. It swings between serious god-slaying and pure romantic comedy without ever feeling like it's choosing sides, which means it works for people who actually want both.
Sixteen-year-old Kusanagi Godou never expected to kill a god. While running an errand in Italy for his grandfather, delivering a magical artifact, he is caught up in a clash between Heretic Gods and ends up defeating the god of war Verethragna alongside Erica Blandelli, a young knight of a magic society. The victory makes him a Campione, a God Slayer who holds that god's powers and is expected to face other Heretic Gods. Godou calls himself a pacifist and never wanted the role, yet it draws challenges from gods and fellow God Slayers, along with a group of mostly female followers. Erica, scheming and flirtatious, keeps pushing things further. Action and comedy mix with romance and ecchi throughout.
