The OVA doubles down on what made the series work: samurai reduced to their most human, most petty selves. One more episode of them arguing over housework while the shadow of Bakumatsu hangs completely ignored in the background. The show knows its joke is that these legendary warriors chose a day where nobody dies over a day where they become history.

An unaired thirteenth episode bundled into the DVD release, bringing more laid-back Shinsengumi antics.
