Ryo gets smacked by that hammer so hard the show becomes a conversation between two people who actually like each other, and that's where the real chemistry lives. The crime-solving is just scaffolding for the back-and-forth, the pratfalls, the way Kaori knows exactly how to cut him down when he deserves it. Every episode ends with them still bickering on the Tokyo streets, and you realize that's the whole point.

Ryo Saeba returns as the City Hunter, a sweeper who works as a private detective on the streets of Tokyo. Together with his close friend and assistant Kaori Makimura, he takes jobs from people in desperate situations who need their troubles solved. When he is not turning his sharpshooting on criminals, Ryo turns his attention to attractive women, and Kaori keeps him in line with an enormous hammer aimed at his lecherous streak. The result mixes action, comedy and mystery across thirteen episodes.
