It opens on Ryo broke, bored, and clientless for months, which is the exact setup every City Hunter fan wants, because a hungry Ryo is a dangerous Ryo. Then the job walks in wearing Sayaka's face, a Mega City TV anchor whose own employers want her dead, and suddenly the target isn't a hitman but a broadcast network with unlimited airtime and no conscience. The special leans into that: media as a weapon, a station that can manufacture reality, and a title that dangles the death of Ryo Saeba like bait until you find out all is not what it seems. It's the classic formula compressed into one sitting, sleaze gags and a .357 punchline in the same breath, tenderness smuggled in under the mokkori. As the last of the classic-era TV specials, it plays like a sendoff that refuses to get sentimental about itself. You come for the case. You stay because Ryo only ever takes the jobs nobody else will.

Ryo Saeba has gone months without a single job, so he finally lands a client: Sayaka, a beautiful newscaster at Mega City TV who is afraid for her life. Her pursuers are not random thugs but her own employers, and they will stop at nothing to see her killed. Ryo squares off against the power of an entire TV station to keep Sayaka alive, only to find that the situation is not quite what it appears. A one-episode special from 1999, it mixes action and adventure with comedy.
