Two outcasts find each other, and suddenly the entire world narrows down to one person. The movie doesn't retell the series, it rewrites the story to be about Tomoya and Nagisa first, everything else second. What hits is watching two people fall in love while the camera stays close enough to catch the small moments that matter, the ones the TV show rushed past to get to tragedy.
Tomoya is a third-year high school student who never takes his studies seriously. He is always late for class, so the classmates busy preparing for entrance exams see him as a delinquent, and he has few close friends. Then he meets Nagisa, a clumsy girl left without friends at school because everyone she knew has already graduated. He cannot bring himself to leave her alone. While helping her, he gets to know several other girls from his school, and his early indifference gives way as he opens up to them. When he learns that Nagisa dreams of reviving the Drama Club, he sets aside his detachment to help her, and their friendship begins to grow into something deeper. The film is a romantic drama with a touch of fantasy.
