The cruelest thing about living with someone is knowing their smile is a performance and being powerless to stop it. Shinichiro's watercolors aren't art, they're an attempt to paint what she's hiding, and that desperation to reach someone behind their own facade is the entire show. Every confession costs something it can't take back, and by the end you'll understand why some tears are worth more than comfort.

Shinichiro lives with Hiromi, a girl whose father was a close friend of his family. When her father died, his family took her in right away. At school she is popular, cheerful and good at sports. At home, though, she turns quiet and withdrawn, and Shinichiro is sure she is hiding sadness inside. He has an artistic streak and paints watercolors of her, wishing he could ease her tears, yet he cannot find the nerve to speak to her even under his own roof. His friend Nobuse teases him for watching Hiromi from a distance. He is also forced to perform Muhiga dancing, and a strange girl named Noe, known for curses that come true, puts a curse of bad luck on him. Noe cannot cry because her tears were stolen. Shinichiro hopes that helping her will ease his own troubles, but he struggles to help himself in this romantic drama.
