A blood-red moon suddenly appears in the sky, an event remembered as the Red Moon Incident, and the survivors retreat into a city guarded by high walls. Some of them develop mental mutations. Those who cannot control their mutations give off a mental plague that contaminates the people nearby, putting the remaining humans in grave danger. To deal with the source of this pollution, the walled city forms a special cleanup department that recruits people able to control spiritual energy, and Lu Xin is applying to join its most dangerous branch.
