Crayon Shin-chan stops pretending to be a kids' show and just becomes pure chaos for 90 minutes. The comedy doesn't build toward anything, it just happens, one absurd non-sequitur after another, which is exactly how Shinnosuke's brain works. You get ninja battles that exist only so someone can make a joke about Shinnosuke's butt. The movie knows it's ridiculous and stops apologizing for it around minute two. This is what happens when a comedy stops asking permission to be funny and just swings at every target it sees. A five-year-old and a 40-year-old will laugh at completely different moments, which means it's doing something right.

Crayon Shin-chan returns to theaters with this 2022 comedy film, whose title promises ninja, mononoke and a tornado legend. It is a later entry in the long-running movie series, arriving after the 2018 film Bakumori! Kung Fu Boys, in which Shinnosuke and the Kasukabe Defence Force took on a kung fu challenge in Kasukabe's Chinatown, known as Aiya Town.
