A family so obsessed with saving money they turn poverty into a full contact sport. Every episode finds a new way to wring comedy from the same premise, and it never gets old because the show knows exactly how stupid it's willing to go. Hagemaru and his parents aren't characters solving problems, they're characters becoming the problem, and that's where the real laughs live.

Hagemaru Hageda is a fourth grader with a singular obsession: money. His entire family shares this passion for penny-pinching, and they will do just about anything to save a little cash. His pet dog Pesu often grumbles that the household is so stingy he never gets anything to eat. Hagemaru's best friend is his classmate Masaru Kondo, and he has a crush on Midori, a girl in his class. Most episodes follow him to school, where the stories center on his teacher and his friends. Each episode closes with a top ten segment of short snippets.
