You show up expecting a single protagonist story. By episode three, the frame explodes into sixteen separate dreams, and the show commits completely to following every one. The narrative structure itself becomes the point: this is what it actually costs to build something together, where nobody gets to be the hero of someone else's story. It's not trying to make you love one girl who succeeds. It's trying to make you understand why the ones who don't pass the audition matter just as much.
A freshly opened talent agency called AiRBLUE signs a group of aspiring voice actresses, each with a strong personality and a dream of her own. With no track record and no experience between them, the newcomers expect to build their skills slowly, until agency head Masaki Ootori announces that they will audition for the anime adaptation of Bloomball, a popular sports manga. The odds are against them, and however hard they practice, not all of them will make it through. Still, the audition gives each girl a real chance to debut in the demanding world of voice acting. Adapted from an idol-training mobile game, the TV series follows their pursuit of that goal across 24 episodes.
