Hiroshi Inaba, head of the Inaba Detective Agency, is part wolf and can draw crucial details from a person's hair by studying or tasting it, a gift that has also left him with something of a hair fetish. Half-human, half-animal chimeras share society with ordinary humans, and when they commit crimes the odd clues they leave often baffle the police. Ogino Kuniharu, Inaba's former partner on the force, calls on him for help with a case tied to the Italian Mafia, which is led by Don Valentino, a half-goat crime boss who likes to eat money. With his two assistants beside him, one of whom cross-dresses, Inaba sets out to bring Valentino down in a story that mixes action, comedy, mystery and the supernatural.
