Japan's contribution, overseen by Dr. Oedo, takes the form of two ambitious builds: the Space Carrier Jasdum and Dangard A, a giant robot. Young Takuma Ichimonji is a candidate to pilot this machine, driven by more than scientific ambition. His father, the famous space pilot Dantetsu, disappeared after a mysterious accident, and the public held him responsible for it. By becoming a space pilot and seeing the project through, Takuma hopes to clear his father's name. Whether he will actually earn the pilot's seat remains an open question.
