A girl pilots a giant robot to save her lunch. That absurd priority is the entire show, played completely straight while everything around it collapses into 1986 mechanical chaos. Del Power X doesn't pretend to be anything heavier than it is, which means the comedy lands exactly where it aims, and you get to watch a schoolgirl's righteous anger at inconvenience become the most justified mecha activation sequence ever.

Manami Hanegi is a junior high schoolgirl whose grandfather spends his time building strange contraptions. His newest invention, the mecha Del Power X, arrives at their home with a pilot's seat made just for her. When a villainous robot storms her school, endangering her friends and spoiling her lunch, Manami takes the controls to set things right. Her grandfather's rival, Von Getsueru, and a crowd of other challengers are eager to prove the machine is not as unbeatable as claimed. Manami battles for love, for pride, and most of all for her lost bento in this single-episode comedy of sci-fi mecha action.
