A kid chosen by a planet wakes up eight sleeping robots and has to figure out how to lead them through actual life, not just alien invasions. The show spends enough time on pizza nights and homework disasters that when Oh-Boss shows up, you actually care who lives and dies. It builds a real team out of strangers, then trusts the serialized story enough to let them stay broken and healing instead of resetting after each fight.
A mystical jewel chooses Seiji Takasugi to defend the world. The Aurin, a stand-in for the Earth itself, names him commander of eight brave robots that lie asleep in various corners of the globe as Brave Stones. Once Seiji wakes them, they become super robots by merging with people and machines of the present day, and they take his orders. The trouble begins when a space pirate called Lord Oh-Boss, also known as Orbus, attacks the planet to steal its life energy. That energy gathers at Release Points, and a simultaneous strike on several of them would blow the Earth apart. During the first assault, Seiji hides in an old temple with his girlfriend Hikaru Kosaka. There the Earth's conscience gives him the jewel, and its power turns a patrol car into the robot Da-Garn. Da-Garn and the other brave robots must then stop Oh-Boss and his underlings from draining the planet.
