Hiro thinks the Hologram Ghosts are just internet noise until they're not. The show treats urban legends with a horror writer's patience, letting each encounter feel genuinely unsettling instead of rushing to spectacle. Your partner Digimon doesn't solve the mystery for you, it survives alongside you, and survival alone becomes the point.

For a few years, social networks have buzzed with rumors of Hologram Ghosts, strange beings that some people claim to have survived and describe as looking like glitched holograms. Hiro Amanokawa, a first-year middle schooler at Hazakura Academy, writes the stories off as urban legend. As the incidents grow more frequent, though, he thinks back to the day his father suddenly disappeared, leaving behind only some odd digital watches. After one of his schoolmates is targeted by a Hologram Ghost, Hiro and his friend Kiyoshirou Higashimitarai set out to look into what happened. Activating a Digivice left by his father lets Hiro see Digimon, creatures ordinary people cannot perceive, and he meets Gammamon, a mischievous Digimon his father entrusted to him. From then on he is drawn into a string of bizarre phenomena and into the hidden world where Digimon live. The series blends action and adventure with horror, mystery and sci-fi.
