Nobita stumbles into a world where flying isn't a dream, it's the only way to survive. The movie trades the usual gadget-focused plots for something quieter: a kid learning that helping a stranger means you're already part of their story. By the time Nobita understands what Birdpia actually is, he's stopped thinking about his own wings entirely.

When Nobita and his friends meet at Shizuka's house, they learn that whole flocks of birds have gone missing. Nobita decides that winged creatures must be behind it and becomes fixated on flying himself, so he builds a pair of mechanical wings. While testing them, he meets a real winged being who comes flying out of a distortion in time and space. After Nobita helps this creature, named Gusuke, he and his friends are drawn into the distortion and arrive in Birdpia, Gusuke's home world, where winged creatures live. The film is a fantasy adventure.
