The animation is so clean it makes everything before it look like a sketch. Gods fight like they weigh something, like the air itself pushes back, and Goku's first transformation in years actually feels earned instead of inevitable. The plot is thin enough that you stop noticing once the fights start, which is exactly the point, this is a movie built to show what modern DBZ animation could do, and it does it.

A god wakes up hungry for a real fight. Bills, the God of Destruction, stirs from a long slumber shortly after the defeat of Majin Buu and hears rumors of a Saiyan warrior who beat Frieza. With his assistant Whis, he goes looking for that warrior: Goku. Goku is thrilled by the chance at a new challenge, but Bills overwhelms him quickly and defeats him. Seeing the danger Bills poses to the whole universe, Goku and his friends race to find a way to stop him, turning to Shen Long the Eternal Dragon and the legend of a Super Saiyan God. The movie mixes large-scale action and science fiction with plenty of comedy.
