Confucius is born in the state of Lu in 551 B.C. and grows up in his mother's care after losing his father at the age of three. He marries at 19 and goes to work for the local nobility, then at 32 becomes tutor to the children of Lu's prince. At 51 he turns to politics and rises to justice minister and later prime minister. Lu thrives for four years, but court intrigue wears on him. He spends the next 12 years traveling through neighboring states, advising their rulers. This single-episode OVA is a drama about the philosopher's life, loosely based on a manga by Chen Uen.
